    Compact, versatile, easy to use

Posted by Peter A. on 28th Feb 2024

I like that these are color-coded to denote thickness, rather than etched or stamped with very small numbers. These work well no matter how you use them. I've used the small ends for top and bottom keyway tension in locks with satisfactory results. They can't cover all the bases all the time, but they're a solid foundation for a very compact kit. If I was limited to only one style of tension tool for basic pin-tumbler lock picking, I'd go with this kind.

    Best Tensioners Period

Posted by Robert McDade on 24th Jun 2023

If you carry this set in your EDC or in your pick set you really don't need any other tension wrenches. You can use these on wide open american padlocks like on Masterlocks or tight paracentric euro keyways like on DOM or Evva. You have TOK and BOK capabilities. These are my go to tensioners and when I build a starter kit for anybody they get these 3 wrenches. They offer tremendous feedback and are not springy at all so you have way more control.

    THE best tension set

Posted by Stefan Bertasz on 23rd Feb 2022

I've got a large handful of BOK tension tools. This is the best set I've ever had! These three tools are all you need for any lock requiring bottom tension. They are perfect in every way. I'm buying an extra set, because I can't image being without them. Trust me...buy two.

    Perfect!

Posted by Mark Bomboy on 6th Aug 2021

When you want a minimalistic pick set, these are an answer to a prayer. Do they work for top of keyway? You bet! Do they work for bottom of keyway? Yes they do! They fit a wide range of keyways because of their varied thicknesses. Try a set and thank me later. They aren’t that expensive and they are worth a try.

    Did you get yours?

Posted by Mark on 16th Jul 2021

Do you have a set of these? Why not? I’ve purchased several sets of these to add to pick sets that didn’t have good tension tools. Like many lock sporters I’m always buying new pick sets looking for those magical picks that let you pick those impossible locks that always defeat you. But the one thing you must have are good tension tools. If you can’t control the lock core. You can’t open the lock. Many pick makers neglect their tension tool selection. So off I go to Southern Specialties to buy more tension tools for another pick set. I like each of my pick sets to have a full compliment of tension tools. That way I don’t have to swap them around when I’m playing with a different pick set. These are the absolute best and most versatile tension tools for a pick set. They got you covered for both Top Of Keyway (TOK) or Bottom Of Keyway (BOK). Since you get 3 different thicknesses, they will fit virtually every standard keyway. Since there are only 3 tension tools. They can easily be added to any pick set that has even a minimum of extra room.

    Good.

Good tensioner set. I like them a lot. I will say, however, that they could be better if the corners in the top-of-keyway end were not rounded, as this can cause slippage.

    Longhorn Tension Wrench

I absolutely love these wrenches. They have the sizes I need and can use them for TOK. Love the fact they're color coordinated, the size is perfect. It's all I use now, thank you.

    Tension set

This was a good buy. Better than I expected and they're my 1st color coded, which I have already found helpful. The size of the set is also convenient if you're one of the many EDC obsessives. Would go right in a wallet, no prob. If you pick locks, you already know tension wrenches are critical. I can open 1,000 locks with just a hook and 0 locks with no tension. It's a good buy.
